For "Let's All Play Battletech" on SomethingAwful. Featuring an Ostroc OSR-2C, a Raven RVN-3L, Gladiator GLD-4R, Orion ON1-K, and an Awesome AWS-8Q. Some of which were dramatically redesigned.

Players playing the part of the 1st Regulan Hussars, Rolling Thunder Company. An old-school legendary unit back before the FWLM was fully standardized in the 3050's, and when regional Free Worlds League member-states still had a lot more independence as far military organization went. Back in those days? These guys were some of the best House troops you'd ever see fielded. And in the Alternate Universe LP Battletech, the 2nd Donegal Guards were defeated by an early Clan Invasion and Wolf's Dragoons were never sent to "scout" the Inner Sphere, so Rolling Thunder no longer has any competition for the title of "Best in the Inner Sphere." Not that they would have given a damn either way.

You should set the default resolution for the picture higher - you can't really see much detail until you hit "Download Image"

The, um, "Ostroc" and "Raven" look like an Exterminator and an Age-Of-War Gladiator, respectively. The Orion looks...basically like the Orion, and the Awesome is unmistakable.

Oh yes, it's hiding in the shadows, being a member of the OpFor. You're absolutely right, I basically used a modified Exterminator canopy I to replace the Ostroc's. The Ostroc silhouette, both unseen and reseen, suffers from being a filed-down Zentraedi "Regault" battle pod with ridiculously lanky arms. There are only a few defining features to the original Ostroc that the design can really "own," and that's a Paddle SRM mount (not paddlehands, though, those were retconned to apply to the Ostwar instead) and a torso that vaguely reminds people of, well, a Zentradi battle pod. Heh.

Basically? I mated the Exterminator to the key features of the Ostroc, both reseen and original, and actually changed the torso glacis to more closely resemble the face of said battle pod than even the reseen. (Look at the "face" of a Regault, and look at the chestplate design on the Exterminostroc.) To reinforce the fact that it's just an Ostroc with a new cockpit and bodywork done, the back vents on the Ostroc (all versions) back up the cockpit canopy. This breaks up the silhouette in a way that the real Exterminator doesn't. The laser mounts were moved from canon "nipplemounts" towards shoulder fittings for the Medium Lasers, while the Large Lasers were moved to side-torso underslung mounts. But yes, the canopy changes the entire impression of the design. If I brought the canopy lower, it would look more like the Reseen design, but if I had to choose between making a bigger canopy and a smaller, in the case of Heavy-class 'Mechs I err on the side of smaller faces.

Smaller faces imply larger bodies and the inverse is also true.

That is, in fact, an Age of War Gladiator, though. After it was dishonoured in the Combine, Merryweather Industries took the design and decided it was still good to sell elsewhere. Believe it or not, the biggest buyer happened to be the Free Worlds League, so you're more likely to see Gladiators flying Marik colors rather than DCMS.
